At George Pindar School, high quality Relationships and Sex Education and Health and Wellbeing lessons are provided for all pupils. The delivery of these lessons is statutory from 2020; therefore, all schools across the country have an obligation to ensure pupils receive a high quality provision that supports their development and wellbeing.
Parents do have the right to withdraw pupils from Relationship and Sex Education lessons: if you wish to do this, please make an appointment with the Associate Vice Principal: Curriculum in school. George Pindar School does not support selective withdrawal from RSE. Our school has a duty to supervise pupils withdrawn from RSE, though not to provide additional teaching or to incur extra cost. Where the pupil has been withdrawn, alternative arrangements will be made for RSE of the kind the parents/guardians want the pupil to receive.

The Department for Education introduced compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education for secondary students from September 2020.
As part of this, all schools are required to consult with parents when developing and reviewing their policies for Relationships and Sex Education which will help inform decisions on when and how certain content is covered.
Effective engagement gives the space and time for parents to input, ask questions and share concerns thus allowing the school to decide the way forward. At George Pindar School, we will listen to parents’ views and then make a reasonable decision as to how we wish to proceed. When and how content is taught is ultimately a decision for the school, and consultation does not provide a parental veto on curriculum content.
